The Lost Promise of Barack Obama.
The Audacity of Hope:
In his 2008 campaign for the United States Presidency, Barack Obama presented himself as the one who would finally bring transparency to government and restore the basic principles upon which this nation was founded and which are embedded within our constitution - among them the rule of law, due process, respect within the world community and respect for human rights.
The Paucity of Hope:
It was all too easy, it turns out, to vote for Barack Obama in that despairing autumn of financial collapse. Eight years of attacks on the United States by the George W. Bush administration had severely compromised not only our economy but many of those basic principals and constitutional rights. Barack Obama gave us the hope that these would be restored. Yet even before assuming the office of President, Obama veered far from this hope. He continues and expands some of the most violently undemocratic and inequitable policies of the Bush administration.
Although this abrogation of responsibility to the U.S. Constitution and the people is not represented throughout all actions and policies of the Obama Administration it is pervasive within too many realms - including those of transparency, the economy, foreign affairs and constitutional rights.
